Page 5: Top Heater Problems

Before Any Maintenance Procedure – UNPLUG THE MACHINE

If the Top Heater is producing no heat or very little heat there are a few simple checks to make before rebuilding or replacing the Top Heater.

First: Check to make sure the Heater Socket is not the problem

Visual Inspection

Remove the Lower Front Cover. This is the angled metal cover just below the moistening tank shelf. There is a 5″ long screw that holds the lower front cover.

See if both wires are connected to the Heater Socket inside the machine.

Voltage Test the Heater Socket

If both wires are connected, check the voltage at the heater socket.

With the machine turned on the voltage at the socket should be 110v. If the socket is 110v then the problem is probably the Top Heater

Plug Top Heater Into Another Outlet

Finally, you can remove  the Top Heater from the tape dispenser (or run an extension cord to the Top Heater Plug) and plug it into a standard 110V outlet. See if it produces heat. If it does, the problem is in the Heater Socket or wiring inside the machine.

You can replace the entire Top Heater easily in a few moments. See How To Install Top Heater section.
